The disorder in the jaw structure is a problem in chewing and speaking!

While many people have difficulty in chewing and speaking, they don't know where the problem comes from. However, in many cases, the problem is caused by jaw disorder and treatment is possible.

Orthognathic surgery, which is the surgical treatment method for the face, jaw and teeth of people in our day, is derived from the words orgos (flat) and gnagus (jaw). Orthognatic surgery is the name given to the surgical treatment of orthodontic treatment in cases where the individual's teeth, jaw and facial defects cannot be corrected by orthodontics (wire treatment). As a result of these surgeries, the broken teeth of the tooth, jaw and facial tissues are corrected.

The structural impairment between the lower and upper jaw may be due to a variety of reasons. All of the following structural disorders can be treated by orthognathic surgery.

Prognatism: Lower jaw leading - class III malocclusion

Micrognathism: Inadequate development of the lower jaw relative to the upper jaw - class II malocclusion

Retrognatism: Positioning the lower jaw behind the upper jaw (in cases without development retardation)

Laterognatism: The lower jaw develops to the right or left more than the upper jaw.

Micrognathia: The upper jaw develops behind the lower jaw.

Open-Bite: The teeth do not come into contact during closing.

Mikrogenia: The tip of the jaw is smaller than normal.

Makrogenia: The tip of the jaw is larger than normal.

Orthognatic surgery should be planned very well!

Orthognatic surgery planning should be done in detail. First of all, the patient is taken from the upper jaw and these models are cast from the cast and the jaw relations of the patient are examined in detail. Panoramic, cephalometric and jaw joint images are evaluated. The cephalometric analysis of the patient is performed and the surgical procedures are determined according to all these analyzes.

Before the operation, the orthodontist starts the patient's orthodontic treatment to prepare the existing teeth for the surgical environment. After the teeth are positioned at the desired level, the patient is taken into operation for repositioning the jaws of the patient. Orthognatic surgery operations are performed in fully equipped hospitals. The general purpose of the operations is to reconstruct and fix the bones with relationship disorders with proper cut lines. The fixing process is carried out with small screws that are texture friendly.

Postoperative care is of great importance!

Since postoperative care is very important, the patient remains in the hospital for 1 - 3 days after the operation. The first days of feeding are with liquid foods. Mostly for the first two weeks fluid - soft nutrition continues. The patient uses the chewing function slowly at the end of the second week. Orthodontic treatment is continued to stabilize both the position of the jaws and the position of the teeth after the operation (reinforcement therapy).

Orthognatic surgery operations, patients;

Chewing, biting and swallowing problems
Speech problems
Chronic jaw and TMJ (jaw joint) pain
It is intended to treat closure disorders with opposing jaws.
The treatment of orthognathic surgery provides a new aesthetic appearance to the patient, in addition to correcting the patient's mouth, teeth and jaw functions. After these operations, patients with a new and ideal appearance were also found to have increased self-esteem after the surgery.
